Conclusion of Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation Project in Herceg Novi
On September 25, 2023, Ambassador Judy Rising Reinke attended the exhibition “Twenty Icons of the Iconographic Collection PI City Museum Mirko Komnenović and Gallery Josip Bepo Benkovic” in Herceg Novi. The exhibition marked the completion of the City Museum Mirko Komnenović and Gallery Josip Bepo Beković’s project “Conservation of Historic Icons Collection,” which involved the cleaning, conservation, and restoration of 20 Orthodox icons from the 17th-19th centuries at the Center for Conservation and Archeology of Montenegro.
Museum Director Gordana Krunić, Mayor of Herceg Novi Stevan Katić, and Minister of Culture and Media Maša Vlaović spoke at the exhibition opening alongside the Ambassador.
This project, which began in 2021, was funded through the U.S. Department of State’s Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) in the amount of $44,463.94 and is one of several AFCP projects in Montenegro. The collection will be permanently housed at the Museum Mirko Komnenović.
